Venison Shepherd’s Pie

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground venison (whitetail deer)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 onion, diced (garden or locally grown)
  • 2 carrots, diced (garden or locally grown)
  • 2 cups frozen peas (garden or locally grown)
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 1 cup beef or game stock
  • 4 cups mashed potatoes (garden or locally grown)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add onion and carrots, and sauté until softened.
  2. Add ground venison and cook until browned. Stir in flour and stock, then simmer until thickened. Add peas and season with salt and pepper.
  3. Transfer the mixture to a baking dish and spread mashed potatoes on top.
  4. Bake for 30 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly. Serve warm.
